new board members!

 

We are looking to create a diverse Board of Directors representative of folks who are committed to advancing the mission of Farmshare Austin, who bring a strong equity lens to our organization, and who reflect the diversity of Central Texas.

This is a great opportunity to serve on the board of a growing local organization that is committed to building a healthier local food system in Central Texas.

At Farmshare Austin, our mission is to grow a healthy, just and equitable local food system by increasing community food access and cultivating new farmers.
 
We envision a future of resilient local food economies that ensures equitable access to food and to the resources needed to farm. Farmshare has two main program areas: Food Access and Beginning Farmer Education.

Candidates
The ideal candidates will have some of the following qualifications:
  • Professional expertise in areas such as law, fundraising, finance, land access (purchasing/financing), community health, farming, and/or food value-chain. 
  • Previous experience with non-profit financial systems.
  • Previous Board Experience or non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience working with economically diverse populations and multilingual communities.

Board Responsibilities and Duties

  • As a board member, you will advise the ED on the organization's efforts towards our mission and lend your expertise to help us support Farmshare programs.

  • The Board of Directors meets every other month, and each board member participates in a committee which meets in the interim months. 

  • Members are expected to attend Farmshare fundraising events which happen 2-3 times a year.

  • Board members are responsible for helping the organization meet its financial goals. Each board member will be asked to contribute $2,000 a year to Farmshare’s fundraising efforts, either through a gift of personal significance or a meaningful personal effort. This personal effort could include donating professional expertise, fundraising from donors, recruiting event sponsors or soliciting matching gifts and in-kind donations.
